MUSCULOSKELETAL

PHYSIOTHERAPY

WHAT IS MUSCULOSKELETAL?

Musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy focuses on the assessment and treatment of pain, stiffness, weakness and movement problems affecting the muscles, joints and other tissues of the body.

The musculoskeletal system includes your bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and cartilage.

Problems can develop suddenly following an injury, or gradually as a result of changes in activity, repetitive strain, overloading or previous injury.

At Salveo Physiotherapy, we treat a wide range of acute and long-term musculoskeletal conditions, including:

Back and neck pain, including some disc-related problems

Whiplash and other traumatic injuries

Muscle strains and ligament sprains

Nerve-related pain

Shoulder, hip and knee problems

Arthritis and other joint conditions

Tendinopathy and tendon pain

Sports injuries

Problems following previous injuries

General muscle, joint and movement-related pain

Our aim is to help you understand your symptoms, reduce pain, restore movement and strength, and return to the activities that are important to you.

Even if you have been experiencing symptoms for a long time, physiotherapy may still help.

Your assessment and treatment plan will be tailored to your individual symptoms, goals and circumstances.

What to Expect at your First Appointment

Your initial assessment allows us to understand your problem and determine how best to help you.

We will discuss your symptoms, medical history and how your condition is affecting your everyday life, work, exercise or sport.

Your physiotherapist will then carry out an appropriate physical assessment, which may include looking at your movement, strength, flexibility and relevant joints or muscles.

We will explain our findings and discuss your treatment options with you. Where appropriate, treatment can begin during your first appointment, and you will be given advice and exercises to support your recovery.

You may need to expose the area being assessed, so please wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the affected area. If you are attending for a lower back or leg problem, you may wish to bring a pair of shorts.

If further investigation is appropriate, such as imaging or referral to another healthcare professional, we will discuss this with you.

Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and be involved in decisions about your treatment.
